Real Men's Ministry
What: Real Men is a Choose Life ministry consisting of regular seminars and fellowship aimed to equip and motivate men to fulfil their God-given destiny and purpose.
Why: Being male is a matter of birth; being a man is a matter of choice (Edwin Louis Cole). Statistics have shown that at least 40% of children are not living with their fathers. Only about 25% of men have close male friends. We work on average 47 hours a week doing 1.3 people’s work yet 33% cannot earn enough to meet all the family’s needs. We spend less than 5 minutes per day talking to our wife and children, let alone God. Most of us have a secret life involving substance abuse (20%) or sexual activities such as pornography or affairs (64%), yet only 33% of us will reach out for help. Men have forgotten how to be real men. We perceive masculinity to be found in money, power, prestige, women, sex, sport and many other things except for what God intended for us. Men are called to be the king, priest and prophet of their households. This requires of us to be saved, be good husbands, involved fathers and ultimately committed men of God. We have the choice and will be challenged to break the cycle of destruction now.
Purpose: Real Men ministry has the purpose to:
- Identify the snares, lies and temptations of the world and how it marginalizes the impact of men on the world as well as their spiritual health;
- Present a godly alternative to the world and Satan’s lies regarding masculinity;
- Equip men to effectively deal with these snares, lies and temptations and put an action plan together to conquer
- Motivate men to start fulfilling their God given destiny or purpose
- Support and continuously encourage men in living out their dreams

Authentic Manhood. Thurs 1900- 2030 in Studio 24 sessions (Patrys Cilliers and Pieter Theron) Aug 12, 19, 26 Sept 2, 9, 16 Real Men Encounter weekendWe as men are too busy; we do not even make time for quality quiet time. We seldom fast and few ever do a retreat to focus our attention back on God and to clear the cobwebs. Virtually all great men of the bible did this and we wonder why God does not speak to us anymore. During the Real Men Encounter weekends men are given the opportunity to deal with baggage by experiencing God’s grace and being strengthened and set onto a new path though the power of the Holy Spirit. Each camp is unique and has a theme as guided by the Holy Spirit. One encounter weekend is planned. 10-12 September 2010 Please contact church office or Pieter Theron for more details We are aware that we need to sacrifice some family time but comparing that to all the Saturdays we play golf, watch rugby or cricket on TV etc it really is only 2 out of 52 weekends and it is virtually guaranteed that this weekend will affect how you spend time on all other weekends. P.S. If you have a friend or relative that is backslidden or never made a commitment for Jesus, this would be a good opportunity to bring them along. If you have never been baptized or never have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, this is your chance as well.
Real Men FellowshipMen learn from other men or die trying. Therefore, fellowship is important to ensure that we are not discouraged through the trials and tribulations that we face in our walk with God. We need to be encouraged by other men who have chosen to follow God. Ordinary men are asked to share how their choice to choose life has affected their lives. This is done on selected last Saturdays of the month except during school holidays normally at News Cafe Moreleta Park on the corner of Garsfontein and Rubenstein roads. Each man is responsible to buy his own coffee and breakfast from 07:00 to ensure we start at 07:15. We will finish with ample time for discussion and fellowship by 08:00. We have also included a number of social events this year like 4x4 day, Rugby at Loftus and big screen during Super 14 final if the Bulls are playing of course. Authentic Manhood CourseAs a pilot project, we will be presenting the Authentic Manhood DVD course
Thursdays 1900- 2030 in Studio 24 sessions (Facilitators:Patrys Cilliers, Pieter Theron); Tuesdays 1900- 2030 in Centurion 24 sessions (Facilitator: Trevor Farley) Thursday course starts 4 Feb and dates are Aug 12, 19, 26 Sept 2, 9, 16 Strength in Numbers (SIN) GroupStrength in Numbers is a Christ-centred support group for men who struggle with pornography, sex addiction and/or homosexuality. For those ensnared to lust, S.I.N. offers grace and hope; a safe place where you can be honest without fear of condemnation. Many Christians who find themselves ensnared to lust sit in church week after week, burdened with shame and feeling trapped. “I’m the only one who struggles with this and there’s no one I can talk to”, they think. They try to hide and stuff the problem, but eventually lust takes on a life of its own … and then “it” happens: they get caught, their marriage falls apart, or they pick up an STD. Today, the truth is that there are many in the church who are suffering from the devastation caused by pornography and/or sex addiction: - In their stadium events, Promise Keepers passes out a survey to the men that includes a question about their sexual purity; in some surveys as many as 60% of the respondents admit to having viewed pornography within the past 90 days.
- In a poll Focus on the Family took in October of 2003, 47% said that pornography was a problem in their home.
- In March of 2002, Pastors.com conducted a survey on porn use of 1,351 pastors: 54% responded that they had viewed Internet pornography within the last year, and 30% of these had visited within the last 30 days.
Lust breeds and thrives in isolation. Like a leech, lust attaches itself to the soul and sucks it dry, leaving the man empty and burdened with shame. The struggler with porn or sex addiction knows he needs help but is terrified of telling someone because of the fear of rejection. However, this “holding in of the sickness” gives lust a stronger foothold in the heart, and the compulsions to turn to sexual sin grow in intensity. In time, lust becomes the master. The man who struggles with sex addiction is often blind to the effects of his secret habit, but those around him are not. When his family tries to love him he responds like a wounded cat; he lashes at them with criticism, neglect and rejection, even abuse. Instead of being the man of inner strength and love, that God calls him to be, he becomes Weak heart, man without a chest. Compromise sneaks into his life and begins to rot out his character.
